Jason Tom Bio: An Idea Worth Spreading Like PB & J
Welcome to the official website of Jason Tom, a Hawaiian-born beatboxer, musician, and educator who has been making waves in the music industry for over three decades. Growing up in Honolulu, Jason was surrounded by the sounds of the island and the beat of the ocean, which would later become the foundation of his unique sound.
Jason began beatboxing in 1987, recording in 1989, and performing in 2004, and has since had an illustrious career. He has graced stages such as the International Human Beatbox Convention and American Beatbox Championship, and has been named Hawaii's King of Beatbox. His achievements have also earned him a feature in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Library and Harvard University's Hip-Hop Archives.
However, for Jason, it's not just about the accolades. His passion and creativity drive him every day, and he loves sharing his art with others. Through his Human Beatbox Academy, he empowers the next generation of beatboxers. Jason's inspiration comes from legendary artists such as Bobby McFerrin, Michael Jackson, Rahzel, and Michael Winslow. He approaches beatboxing as a way to create a sonic landscape that transports listeners to another world.
When he's not making music, Jason can be found geeking out over Detroit Lions football (he was named the "Most Optimistic Detroit Lions Fan" by the Roar Motor City Sports Talk Show) or indulging in his favorite Hawaiian dishes (poke bowls for life!). He has also collaborated with renowned artists such as Tom Thum, Jake Shimabukuro, and Makana, and was featured in the documentary film "American Beatboxer."
