Freelance Brand Waikiki

September 26, 2013 at 02:22PM

Earlier this week I cruised with the Freelance Brand fam (shout out to model Keshia Mieko) after a performance and @honozooloo snapped photos of us in Waikiki. I'm laced with Freelance's brand new Plumeria 5 panel leather bill (with an original Aloha olioli underbill, only 50 made), black on black hoody, and red backpack. The other new addition is the raw denim snapback with three interchangeable patches. You can get your's at Sera's Surf and Shore (Ala Moana Shopping Center), iKandy Hawaii, 88 Tees, and more. While out in Waikiki, Whoop and I also did a spontaneous video for Instagram here. #freelancebrand #freelancefam

Father's Day Weekend

June 21, 2011 at 08:20PM

What a productive last week and Father's Day weekend. It was anticipated on my calendar to be an intense week. On Thursday I taught 2 summer school classes early in the morning on the history and culture of beatboxing. Several students there remember when I performed at the school they graduated from several weeks prior. Before I came home from that adventure TEDxHonolulu uploaded and tagged me to their June auditions photo. That was when folks on Facebook made their voice heard. I want to thank Kitty for being the trend setter that she is and everyone who submitted "Jason Tom" to be a potential TEDxHonolulu presenter on 11.11.11 11.1.11. You can still nominate a potential presenter for 11.11.11 11.1.11 with "ideas worth spreading" for a total of two upcoming July au…

Pray for Japan

March 15, 2011 at 07:11AM

My prayers goes out to Japan! I know that recent current events is affecting many of us one way or another. Relief efforts are being worked on as I type on the Hawaii end. Hawaii also had tsunami warning sirens go off like crazy last week and a lot is happening.

Life of a beatboxer does not stop though and as tough as it is I needed to follow through with my pre-engagements. On Saturday, March 12th at 8:00AM HST I was invited weeks in advance to guest judge the Worldwide Ventrilo Beatbox Battle on VentBBX.com. Congratulations to Slurp of Norway on winning that Ventrilo Beatbox Battle! Early in my career I've worked with Norway rapper TKB, but I have not heard from him in years. Then on Sunday I performed for Lola-Palooza for the newly turned 1-year-old Lola and fell u…

HAT Party

November 15, 2010 at 05:05PM

A while back Hawaii-Aloha Travel's Bruce Fisher, whom I first met during the TEDx Honolulu 2009 conference and reunited with at the [Re]Think: Hawaii 2010 conference, invited me to open for Makana at HAT's Annual Appreciation Party. I was impressed about the thought put into how they made the program for guests look like airplane travel tickets. I'm a dork for that, because I love travel. After my solo set... Makana and I reunited on stage closer to the end of his set with Gerardo Velez (percussionist for Jimi Hendrix & more). It was truly an honor to be part of  HAT's Party filled with fun as well as laughter and my overall impression is that Bruce is an amazing boss for his HAT agents. I mentioned to Bruce that I experienced the best crowd for my "Boom Clap Boom B…

Mighty4 Arts Hawaii Foundation Fundraiser

June 24, 2010 at 02:02PM

For those who attended APEX (presented by Freelance Clothing & Mighty4) a while back they might've spotted this flyer or poster teaser:

This July 3rd fundraiser event is for the Mighty4 Arts Hawaii Foundation and it is dedicated in the memory of High Chief XL (Walter). Walter has touched many lives including mine and he was one of the first that I've met at the Mai Tai Bar of the Ala Moana Shopping Center when I first started out performing the beatbox back in 2004 and he encouraged me to keep it going with the beatbox. The last I saw Walter was not more than a few weeks before the APEX event when he was bouncing at Next Door for a Broadcast event. If you were at least somewhat part of the Hawaii nightlife then you probably had your ID checked by Walter at one …

Jason kind of reminds me a gecko; a gecko always adapts and recovers from all the hardships he went through. The curves in Tom Thum's "Jason Tom" logo design looks really cool!
