April 6, 2016 at 03:01PM

It's on!!! The BIG SHOW is this Thursday (April 7th -- the Grand Slam FINALS and 13th Anniversary Show at Hawaiian Brian’s). Folks, we've been building up to this moment for an entire year, and it will definitely be the best slam poetry show by far!! It is also a fundraiser to send the HawaiiSlam Team to the National Poetry Slam in Georgia so please come out and support the cause. Last year, the HawaiiSlam Team placed 2nd in the nation, and this Thursday is your chance to see who will represent HawaiiSlam at this year’s national competition!! This super special championship show will be hosted by Kealoha (Hawai`i Poet Laureate) and will feature:

Beatboxing In Chinatown
Jason Tom

Jason Tom, 29, is a beatboxer whose unique sounds landed him in the world of slam poetry. He has been involved with slam poetry for six years now. Tom's intersection of beatboxing and slam poetry makes him a special breed in Chinatown. He said that the beauty of the two art forms is that both utilize the human voice.

Tom lives in the heart of Chinatown and he draws inspiration from the streets and people. His favorite place to watch his fellow slam poets is Fresh Cafe on Queen Street. Fresh Cafe hosts HawaiiSlam, the hottest event on First Thursdays to enjoy the poetry and some friendly competition. He has learned a lot of life lessons from the spiritually and highly philosophical elements of slam…

Rock Your Poetry

December 15, 2011 at 07:00PM

Two nights ago, I did an opening beatbox performance for the Rock Your Body Fashion Dance Benefit at the SoHo Mixed Media Bar presented by National Dance Week Hawaii and Dancers Unlimited. Here I am rocking the Far East Movement x Subcrew cap, the O.W.W.L (One World With Love) shirt and my Radii 420 Top sneakers.

I also met an AliveNotDead friend Sergio (Far East Movement and Subcrew also have AliveNotDead) who uploaded a mini clip here:

Now onto poetry slam. I want to give a shout out to @NctrnlBst of Nonstop Honolulu for covering December 2011's First Thursdays "No Rules" Poetry Slam (non-qualifier to the Grand Slam Finals) with ukulele virtuoso Taimane Gardner as the…

Hawaii Sensation Jason Tom, beat boxer

Over the years I have seen all kinds of musical talents from different parts of the country and the world. I love the ones that bring something new or something old with a fresh twist on it, not straying too much from the origin. One day I came across a guy on a website that was a music artist. He was very different from the average music artists in that he performed without any background music. The music was actually coming from within him. He himself was actually a musical instrument. I was amazed at his talent. He has fresh sounds, you can see the energy popping off of him,…

I wish I could at two places at the same time, don't you????

August 5, 2008 at 09:41AM

Mark your calendars, this Wednesday, August 27th I will MC and perform at the MELE outdoor "Back to School" concert from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at Honolulu Community College. Also featured will be local ska punk reggae rock band Pimpbot, and more. Admission is free, and all ages welcomed!

Also, I've recently been offered through e-mail to perform three five-minute routines on the same date between 11:30AM to 12:30PM at another location for a promotional event, but can't do it since it falls within the same time frame. I'll be able to do the HCC event though.

It is moments like this that I wish I could be at two places at the same time. I really do. This isn't the first time I've felt this way either. If only I could teleport or travel through time.

Anyway, on another note Fi…
