Miracles From Heaven

January 30, 2016 at 01:59PM

Based on a true story. I am grateful that two of my good female friends contacted me about Miracles From Heaven. I watched the advance movie preview a few nights ago and I have to say that Miracles From Heaven is an inspiring movie and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone when it hits movie theaters on March 16, 2016.

I am saddened to hear of the recent closing of Fresh Cafe Kakaako and Fresh Cafe Downtown! The downtown location was where the Honolulu Star-Advertiser interviewed me for a Today cover feature. I've also beatboxed there for First Fridays and other events. I remember it like it was yesterday when I beatboxed at one of the Kakaako location's first hip-hop events Last Call (2009), Freelance Brand's Apex (2010) & Trilogy II (2012), National Dance Week Hawaii All-Style Battle (2011), and Hawaii Slam's First Thursdays Poetry Slam & Open Mic (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).

Here I am beatboxing for HawaiiSlam's First Thursdays at Fresh C…

Yahoo News

January 1, 2016 at 01:48PM

I just learned that Yahoo News archived two videos of my KITV Morning News appearance. Yes, there's a band-aid on my left cheek and no, it's not an attempt of my Nelly look, but it was to cover up my allergic reaction to an insect bite. I felt very self-conscious with the band-aid on.

A beat from the Heart

December 23, 2015 at 10:56PM

"A beat from the Heart" is an article written by a contributing freelance writer on the local music and entertainment scene*

Jason Tom, The Human Beatbox, delivers quite the performance with his extensive vocal capacity, elevating energy, and overall charismatic presence. Tom has perfected the ability to produce a whirlwind of sound, a collaboration of new school and old school hip-hop using man’s original music maker, his voice. A nearly impossible feat for many to convey on a simple level, Jason has mastered the art of beatboxing; able to incorporate everything from snares, heartbeats, claps, and everything in between; all while singing simultaneously.

Jason first began making vocal beatboxing sounds at just four years old. Never having been exposed to the ar…

Nicole Paris and Ed Cage: A beatboxing lesson from a father-daughter duo

December 11, 2015 at 10:56AM

Nicole Paris was raised to be a beatboxer — when she was young, her father, Ed Cage, used to beatbox her to sleep at night. Now the duo is known for their beatbox battles and jam sessions, which mix classic rap beats with electronic dance sounds. Prepare yourself for a bit of a hip-hop history lesson, and enjoy the show.

Rhythm And Moves

Jason Tom says beatboxing improves his cardio, lungs and strength. “When I beatbox I’m using my whole entire body. … It can be an interesting way to train.”

For Chinatown’s Jason Tom, beatboxing is a whole-body workout
By Nina Wu

Ask Jason Tom what he does for a workout and it’s not your typical routine of running or weightlifting.

Tom, 32, is a professional beatboxer. He already has a thin frame, but he swears the beatboxing — a form of vocal percussion — works his core and keeps him toned throughout the year.

“If I were to break it down, singing uses the diaphragm,” said Tom. “So when I practice, I’m taking deep breaths with my diaphragm, and whe…

Hogan News: Students Speak to Jason Tom

It was a pleasure to hear from Jason Tom who is truly a passionate musician at heart. He spoke to us about his journey, career, and showed us that passion can take us far in life.

Growing up, one would think you could not make a living from a hobby like beatboxing. Jason proves it is possible. He created his own style of beatboxing, traveled around the world, won poetry slams and other competitions, and is known as one of the top beatboxers in the world. Jason is an excellent example of pursuing your dreams. An advice I took to heart is to "know that with everything you do, there is no accident... everything happens for a reason". Successful individuals are able to learn from their mistakes, do not give up and have goals th…
